Shine’s Tips for Prom Perfection

Prom is coming soon! It can be a very exciting time in a young person’s life. We know everyone wants to look his or her best for the big day. Here are a few tips from us:

-Plan ahead! Book all appointments 2-3 weeks ahead. This way you will be sure to get the time you need with the stylist you like.

GENTLEMEN

-Get your haircut or an edge-up 3-5 days before the prom. This will help you look sharp and groomed.

-Trim your nails, and make sure they are clean. Yes, your mother was right, you do need to clean under your nails.

-If you will be shaving, make sure you are using a new razor. This will help prevent nicks or cuts. Take your time.

LADIES

-Bring pictures to your appointment. Bring pictures of hairstyles you like, and picture of your dress  to your appointment. Having pictures of your dress along with styles that you like will help your stylist give you a complete prom perfect look.

-Try to find photos of hairstyles with your hair type. It will give you a better idea of what the final product will look like.

A note of warning about pictures!

We love red carpet looks as much as you do. Sometimes those stars have extensions or other pieces in. It’s great to see a look you like, but know that your stylist will customize it to match your look and personality.

Here is an example we found online of what the difference may look like:

Day of your appointment.

-Arrive at the salon with your hair clean and dry. Wear a button down shirt so you won’t be pulling anything over your hair.

-If you are getting your makeup done at the salon, it’s okay to bring products that you like, as well as using what the stylists use at the salon. Your stylist will be glad to have your input on your look.

After the prom, you may have an excess of product in your hair. The best way to get all of it out is shampooing with a clarifying shampoo, like Aveda Brilliant,  brilliant

then following that with a moisturizing conditioner, such as the Aveda Dry Remedy.dryremedy

Have fun and be safe!

ShareShine Blog – April 2016

Fashion colors are a fun, and exciting way to express your individuality. Recently, smokey pastel colors are the fashion colors of choice. These colors are beautiful, and can be very fun. Fashion colors do take a lot of time to achieve, and can be pricey.  However, the cost of these colors go up exponentially when they are not done correctly, or when short cuts are taken. It can be tempting to purchase that box of hair color at the drug store for $10, but the results are not always what you would expect. Just take a look at this person’s results….. https://youtu.be/ELzZHWlAuug

Not exactly what was expected. When you take a risk (like trying to apply bx hair color to your hair) and you are unsuccessful; you add time and money spent at a salon to get it fixed.

Recently, we did a fun pastel purple makeover here at Shine Salon! Take a look!

You can see in these photos our client went through many stages to get to the final result. It took several hours, and several steps to achieve her desired look while maintaining the integrity of her hair.

So what should you do if you are considering a fashionable change?

  1. Schedule a consultation with your stylist.

With fashion colors, you really need a plan. It’s not something you can just walk up to someone and say, “Let’s do this!” You and the stylist need to come up with a plan to get the results you would like, without causing too much damage to your hair. Usually a scheduled consultation is 30 minutes long. It is just you and your stylist. It can be a good idea to bring photos of what you are looking for to your consultation, that leaves little room for misunderstanding between you and your stylist. By the end of the consultation the two of you will have a plan, and you will have your appointment(s) booked for your transformation.

  1. Bring along your patience.

As stated, fashion colors take time to achieve safely. When you come for your appointments, bring along your patience, as you may be at the salon for some time. Bring a book, magazine, snack, work, etc along with your smiling face.

  1. Maintenance is key!

After your appointment(s) is/are over, and you have your new look; you will be eager to go out into the world, and show everyone your new look. Your stylist will be excited for you as well, but you will need a few things before you go. You will need the right tools to take care of your lovely locks!  Here are a few pointers on how to maintain your fashion colors.

-Wash your hair in the coolest water you can stand. This can be the most difficult, but it really will make a difference in the longevity of your color!

-Cut down on the amount of times you do wash your hair. 2 or 3 times a week at most!

-Make sure you are using a color safe shampoo and conditioner system.

-Use dry shampoo on days you are not washing your hair to refresh your look.

Products we recommend:
